Manuel Acién. Obras escogidas II

El segundo volumen de las Obras Escogidas de Manuel Acién agrupa treinta y un textos, a través de los cuales trazó un cuadro de notable fuerza acerca de la sociedad de al-Andalus, integrando todas las fuentes disponibles, desde las escritas (en latín y árabe), a la epigrafía y la arqueología. No es una imagen estática, ya que Acién, opuesto a cualquier esencialismo o continuismo, consideraba que la sociedad de Al-Andalus había sido notablemente dinámica. Identificó una primera fase de formación, pero frente a las ideas del cambio lento, consideró que la misma había sido un proceso de transición en el que se enfrentaron las formaciones sociales protofeudal de los hispanogodos, la tribal de muchos árabes y bereberes, y la islámica del Estado que impulsó la expansión y la conquista. La lucha, visible en las rebeliones contra los emires, se resolvería violentamente en la fitna del siglo IX, con el triunfo de la última, cuya expresión fue la sociedad cohesionada y brillante del Califato del siglo X. Después analizó la evolución de esa sociedad, iluminando aspectos concretos, desde los cambios en la organización del territorio y el urbanismo, hasta la ideología y la propaganda de los Estados posteriores al siglo XI, mostrando la variedad de soluciones y aportaciones de un mundo que algunos planteamientos querrían unidimensional. The second volume of Manuel Acién's Selected Works brings together thirty-one texts, through which he drew a remarkably powerful picture of the society of al-Andalus, integrating all the available sources, from written ones (in Latin and Arabic) to epigraphy and archaeology. What we finally see it is not a static picture, since Acién, opposed to any essentialism or continuism, considered the society of al-Andalus to have been remarkably dynamic. He identified a first phase of formation, but as opposed to the ideas of slow change, he considered it to have been a transitional process in which the proto-feudal social formations of the Hispano-Goths, the tribal of many Arabs and Berbers, and the Islamic of the State that drove expansion and conquest, clashed. The struggle, visible in the rebellions against the emirs, would be violently resolved in the fitna occurred during the 9th century, with the triumph of the latter, whose expression was the cohesive and brilliant society of the Caliphate of the 10th century. He then analysed the evolution of that society, illuminating specific aspects, from changes in the organisation of territory and urban planning to the ideology and propaganda of the States that came after the 11th century, showing the variety of solutions and contributions of a world that some approaches would wish to be one-dimensional.
