Sullanum Tempus

Resumen: Aunque la época de Sila supuso un auténtico punto de inflexión en la historia de la antigua Roma, que afectó no sólo a la política, sino también a la sociedad, a la economía y a la percepción cultural del mundo romano, la historiografía moderna ha evitado centrarse demasiado en ella. De hecho, la investigación sobre Sila y su época ha sido escasa. El objetivo de la presente obra, titulada Sullanum Tempus: The Age of Sulla, surgida del proyecto de un congreso internacional homónimo previsto para el año 2020, cuya celebración truncó la epidemia de COVID-19, es observar no sólo el carácter histórico de Sila y su recepción, sino también plantear la discusión sobre el contexto histórico que condujo a los hechos, los procesos, las causas y las consecuencias que marcaron este momento clave de la República romana tardía. La obra, que reúne a algunos de los mejores especialistas en el período, contiene trabajos relacionados con la vida, las fuentes antiguas y la historiografía de Sila, así como sobre aspectos muy concretos de carácter arqueológico, numismático y epigráfico, y sobre los hechos y los procesos históricos y culturales que se produjeron en el momento de hegemonía política de este imperator imprescindible. Abstract: Although the Age of Sulla was a real turning point in Ancient Roman History, affecting not only Politics but also Society and Economy, and even the Cultural perception in the Roman World, Modern Historiography used to avoid a strong focus on it. In fact, research about Sulla and his time has been scarce. The main aim of this book, entitled Sullanum Tempus: The Age of Sulla, which arose from the project of an international congress of the same name planned for 2020, whose celebration was cut short by the COVID-19 epidemic, is to observe not only the historical character of Sulla and its reception, but also to raise the discussion about the historical context that led to the facts, processes, causes and consequences, that marked this key moment of the Late Roman Republic. The book, which brings together some of the best specialists on the period, contains papers related to the life, ancient sources and historiography of Sulla, as well as on very specific aspects of an archaeological, numismatic and epigraphic nature, and on the historical and cultural events and processes that occurred at the time of political hegemony of this indispensable imperator.
