El presente trabajo aborda el error, su descripción, niveles, y diagnóstico, además de la gravedad del error y la corrección del mismo, siguiendo los postulados teóricos de Carl James en Errors in Language Learning and Use. Exploring Error Analysis, y las referencias a estudios de lingüistas por él citados. Es de notar que el marco teórico se aplica al tratamiento de producciones escritas de estudiantes del primer año del Profesorado en Lengua Inglesa de la UNVM, en tres categorías de composiciones: una carta, una narración y una descripción, realizadas en el curso del año lectivo 2006.
